So, you’ve fallen in love with the adorable nature of Groodles (who can blame you!), but have you considered which type is best suited to your family and lifestyle? There are three things you need to consider: size, coat & colour.
Sizes: A Groodle for Every Home
Groodles come in three distinct sizes. Most people have a favoured size, however, it is important to also consider the space you have to offer and the lifestyle you live.
Mini Groodles
Mini Groodles are little bundles of joy! When fully grown, they weigh between 7-14 kg, making them the perfect pup for families with younger children or those living in an apartment. Don’t let their small size fool you; these pups often have big personalities!
Medium Groodles
Medium Groodles are like the Goldilocks of the bunch—not too big, not too small. Typically weighing between 14-23 kg, they offer a balance of energy and cuddly companionship.
Standard Groodles
Standard Groodles are the gentle giants of the Groodle world, usually weighing between 23-41kgs. While all Groodles require regular exercise, these guys in particular love to play and thrive in homes with big backyards… but they’re also big teddy bears and appreciate cozy couch time with their humans.
Coat Types: Finding the Perfect Fit
Coat types in Groodles can vary greatly in appearance, from tight curls to loose waves. If you suffer from allergies to pet dander, DON’T skip this section!
Wool Coats
Soft, curly, and oh-so-huggable! Groodles with wool coats & double furnishings are the ideal choice for people with allergies as they are non shedding. However, regular grooming is essential to keep those curls unmatted and looking pristine!
Fleece Coats
Groodles with fleece coats have that adorable “teddy bear” look. They are considered non to low-shedding and can still be suitable for families with allergies (our daughter who has severe allergies doesn’t react to Chili, our wavy-coated Groodle, but an individual’s sensitivity varies from person to person). Wavy fleece coats are less prone to matting than curly wool coats but still require regular grooming to keep them looking their best.
Smooth Fleece
Groodles with smooth fleece coats closely resemble Golden Retrievers … just with less shedding! While a much low maintenance coat, they do still need grooming to keep their flat coats healthy and shiny.
If your family has allergies to pet dander, we’d strongly recommend you spend some time with your desired coat type before committing to bringing a Groodle into your home.
Colours: A Rainbow of Possibilities
One of the most exciting aspects of Groodles is their variety of colours! From classic golden to chocolate, black, and cream, there’s a colour for everyone.
Red Groodles are absolutely striking, and personally our favourite! Their coats often start out quite dark and slowly lighten as they age.
